Best Time and Way to Ask Someone Out on a Dating App

thedatinghiveMay 29, 2025May 29, 2025

As we swipe this way and that in a world where meeting people is the new norm, asking someone out on a dating app isn’t as easy as sending a text message or an emoji! Such a feeling can be described as walking the tightrope, with a single misstep resulting in the destruction of an initial connection. Whether a newbie or a worn out swiper online dating person, we all understand that timing and the approach chosen by you really matter. Hence, here we are, presenting you some common mistakes on dating apps and those dating app tips that will aid you in standing out while empowering you to take the next leap in asking out.

1. When Is the Right Time to Act?

There is understanding to the statement that time matters, is it not so? It couldn’t be more accurate on dating apps. Most users are actively swiping on these apps in the evenings. More specifically, after dinner at around 8 to 10 PM, and weekends seem to get even more activity, especially Sundays.

If you will ask someone out on a date, try to do it during those peak times.

Why? Because that timing gives the user the greatest chance to be active on the app, notice you, and respond in real time. You don’t want to get lost under a pile of new matches or just disappear into the ether. You want your thoughtful message to show up when they have an opportunity to see it, thus increasing the odds of a positive response or hopefully a yes!

2. Warm Up Before You Dive In

Imagine walking up to someone at a coffee shop and saying, “Wanna go out?” without even saying hello first. Awkward, right? The same rule applies to the dating app scene, you want to build rapport first before you ask them to go out.

Use light and fun conversation starters. Ask about their travel photos, or about their love of sushi, anything that is in their bio or photos. Once the chat is flowing naturally, and you feel comfortable bringing it up, mention it very casually. “You seem like a really fun person to talk to and want to continue this over coffee one of these times?” It feels casual, but intentional.

3. Be Chill: How to Ask

It shouldn’t be difficult to ask someone out. It is more important to be genuine than to say something that sounds correct. Trying too hard to impress everyone will either cause one to sound fake or sticking to something memorized.

Do it based on your conversation or interactions. If you talked about really liking indie music, you could say something like, “There is a really cool acoustic show this Friday – do you want to go?” Relevant and shows you are listening and want to know more about him/her. One of the top dating app tips is to treat virtual dating like dating in person: be respectful, be yourself, and don’t rush the outcome!

Make Your Move

The right way to ask someone out on a dating app involves being real, timing it appropriately, and feeling the vibe. Forget about aggression and copy paste pick up lines! Real connections are formed through real conversations.

So the next time you match with someone who piques your interest, use these dating app tips, take a deep breath, and just do it! Who knows, that message could write your next great story.
